Kona Peaberry Baby!

Ancients say: With pineapple, sun, & surf, come centipedes

FOFB

Off the Facebook... Again.

It wasn't 'wasting time' that led me to sever the tie this time.

It was an article in a computer magazine about the nine things computer users can do to limit exposure to scams, viruses, and identity theft.

Social Networking was made out to be a particularly 'bad dude' - and since I don't know enough to know how realistic the magazines claims are - I move to the side of caution.

There is only so much self-education one can do. So I took the article's warning at face value.

Oahu

Back from a week in Hawaii. This time it was Oahu's Northeast shore. I went to write and relax.

All I did was relax.

Not that it's a bad thing, but I do need to get started on a new project. That's what it's all about I realized. Just keep writing.

Austin and Nicholl screenwriting comps are up again.

I'm actually over the comp thing. The entry fees. The carrots they dangle. The hype. But last time it did lead to script requests from reps and production companies.

So it's write, submit, polish, nap, re-submit, write, submit, play with dog, polish, re-submit.

In Hawaii we watched a couple of surfing and body-boarding comps at the Banzai Pipeline. That place is wicked.

Every time the water pulled back you could see portions of the reef exposed. Freaky.

And the waves themselves. A little bit of power to them. Deaky.

I've always avoided Oahu because that's where much of Hawaii's population and tourism reside, and when I go to Hawaii I go to 'get away'.

I have been in error. We loved Oahu.

A couple days sunning and swimming at some popular but beautiful beaches near Honolulu: Kailua and Lanikai.

A day at the Ala Moana mall for Kona coffee and Li Hing Mui/Crackseed/Chinese Plums.

And then up to the North Shore for a sweet little getaway.

Yes you heard right. I drank coffee while in Hawaii. Kona Peaberry baby!

We used our old standby, Vacation Rentals By Owner (VRBO), to find a sweet-ass little studio right on the ocean.

Clean, comfortable, kitchenette, TV and movies, looked out across the sea from our bed. Had to close windows at night during high surf because the spray would hit you in bed.

We stayed in Hauula. Beautiful, green area that reminded us of our time in Samoa.

Yes, there were a few tropical critters.

It was very limited in regards to stores/restaurants, but the drive to such amenities was easy.

Every morning, after coffee and pineapple, we'd load the beach gear and make a morning stopping along beaches to watch the surf, lie about, and jump in.

Sunset Beach, Pipeline, Waimea, Haleiwa, were all easy to get to.

Lunch at one of the many shrimp trucks. Then maybe the store for a shave-ice and to pick up groceries for that evening's dinner.

Home for a nap while listening to the waves right outside the window. Read. Finish the previous night's movie. A snack. Back in the car for a quick trip to nearby beach for a late afternoon dip in the healing powers of salt-water.

Back home, couple beers, cook up fresh Ahi and veggies, pop in a movie...

Tell me, when did I have time to write?
